Child Protection Policy
A child should be able to learn without feeling unsafe, pressured or exposed.
Child protection is part of the learning environment, not an extra feature. Our aim is to keep communication, teaching and online interaction appropriate, respectful and focused on the child's wellbeing.
A safe learning culture
Teachers should communicate with children in an age-appropriate, respectful and educational manner. Humiliation, threats, intimidation, discriminatory language or inappropriate personal conversation have no place in a child's lesson.
Parents and guardians
Parents or guardians should know how and when their child is learning online. For younger children, appropriate adult awareness or supervision is encouraged, particularly when a child needs help with technology, scheduling or communication.
Appropriate communication
Communication with children should remain connected to legitimate educational or administrative purposes. Parents or guardians should be included in important matters relating to a younger learner's schedule, progress, concerns or wellbeing.
Privacy and recordings
Images, recordings and personal information relating to children require particular care. A child's lesson, voice, image or personal information should not be publicly shared for promotional or other unrelated purposes without appropriate permission and consideration of the child's interests.
Concerns about a child's wellbeing
If a teacher, parent, learner or staff member becomes aware of behavior that may place a child at risk, the concern should be taken seriously and brought to the appropriate academy contact. Safeguarding concerns should not be dismissed simply because a lesson takes place online.
Professional boundaries
Teachers are expected to maintain clear professional boundaries with learners and families. The teacher-student relationship exists to support education, development and wellbeing and should not be used to create inappropriate dependency, secrecy or private relationships.
Taking appropriate action
When a safeguarding concern is raised, the academy may review relevant information, limit contact, change teaching arrangements or take other reasonable steps according to the seriousness of the concern and applicable safeguarding or legal responsibilities.
